Cat with strong urine odorWe've noticed that our older of two cats (a 2yo male Persian cat) has had really strong urine for the past couple months. Our Tidy Cat clumping litter doesn't hold up to it very well and when the balls break his urine emits an extremely strong ammonia smell. We feed him Science Diet adult cat food and haven't changed it much at all. What could this strong smell be coming from? That is if it's not an indicator of serious problems.
Giving cat phernerganMy 8yo female tabby cat (she's neutered) is vomiting repeatedly since this afternoon beginning about 2pm. She has not eaten any plant or foreign food matter nor dead animals. May I give her phenergan that I have on hand...it is 25mg, and she weighs about 10lbs. I use it for nausea and vomiting from a disease I am fighting myself. I simply want to help her if I can...my vet is out of town until a week from Monday is all. I don't want to hurt her. I thought perhaps if I could stop the vomiting for a few hours she would sleep off what ever it is that has upset her stomach so badly. There doesn't appear to be anything else wrong with her, other than being "grouchy".
Cat breathing faster than normal and lethargicCat (7yo neutered female Persian cat) is breezing faster than normal...almost panting, she seems sedated/lethargic ,some salyva/liquid was coming from mouth earlier, but condition seems to be improving slightly now. Condition up this morning was fine, never known this before, health of the cat has always been good. worried about symptons present from this morning.
Cat twitching and self mutilationMy cat has developed some kind of nervous twitch where the skin on her back and sometimes on her paws jerks, or pulsates to where it can be seen. When this occurs, the cat trys to bite the area and it looks as if she's attacking herself. She bites and bites and pulls out her hair. She is on Revolution, so I know it's not fleas, she's an indoor cat as well.. It started when my 160lb Rotweiler, (who I keep far away from my cat) got loose and chased her. It scared her to the point that I couodn't even touch her without her hissing at me for a few minutes. 2 days later, she is having this tick where her skin shimmies, like a chill, and she bites the area. It is driving her mad, she runs frantically around the room when it happen until, now it's happening more frequently. I called my vet, and she said it could be psychological? She has recently been to the vet to have her teeth cleaned and has had all tests done, what could this be?
Cat not eating after surgeryI need a second opinion....One week before my cat had stomach surgery (9/30/2003) my cat vomited everyday. This triggered me to take him to the vet. After x-rays of my cat, the vet discovered a piece of something 1" long 1/2" wide in his stomach. So surgery was scheduled and performed. I brought my cat home 3 days after surgery. I wanted to be sure all was fine with him before taking him home. I had him home one day and had to take him back to the vet. He was dehydrated and I almost lost him. The vet hydrated him and I was able to bring him back home in 2 days. My cat has not ate any food since 9/30/2003. I have tried force feeding him and all he does is gag when he smells the food and walks away and runs from me. The vet said he has ulcers in his mouth and that is why he is having problems and these will pass in time. He has an antibiotic I give him once a day and vitamins twice a day. My cat has spells of not drinking his water so I give him water by eye dropper when I give him his medicine and vitamins. My cat was 14 lbs. he is now weak and skinny. I've tried all sorts of soft foods, per instructions from the vet. But my cat is not interested. Is there anything more that can be done for my cat and his ulcers so he will eat? Also my cat's right eye has developed mukus in the corners and drains all the time and is half closed. I use a soft warm cloth to wipe this eye free of the mukus. No eye problems before surgery. Please let me know what can be done for my cat to get him back to being healthy again. I'm afraid I may lose him. He uses his litter box but he doesn't realize his bottom isn't completely in the box. Please give me your opinion and what else I can do.
Cat with painful urinationMy male DSH 3yo neutered cat is sometimes using the litter box and sometimes not for both urinating and defecating. He has been crying as if in pain while in and out of the litter box, and has vomited recently. I have taken him to the vet twice. The first time they took a sterile urine sample, which showed bacteria. They started him on Clavamox 125mg twice/day. This caused him to have diarrhea outside of the litter box after a week (upset stomach). After X-rays to rule out bladder stones, and blood tests to rule out liver, kidney, and diabetes problems he was switched to Marbofloxacin, of which he just finished his course. He is still crying, licking his genitals frequently, and will try to use the litter box to occasional avail (sometimes he sits in litter box for up to 20 minutes trying). The vet now started him on Elavil 10mg/day thinking it may be psychological. I am trying to find out if you have ever heard of such a situation. He has always used the litter box since birth, has never had a health problem (current on vaccinations and annual visits) and has always been VERY easy going. I have followed previous advice and changed diet, litter, moved litter box, and did not punish him for going on the floor. Nothing seems to have had any effect. I don't know what to do, and I'm worried something might be physically wrong with him, although it seems he's been checked for everything. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Can we be missing something physical? We've checked for stones, diabetes, liver problems, kidney problems, and UTI. I don't know what else to do. . .Thank you. |

Cat losing hair with itchy skin
About a month ago my female neutered Siamese mix cat lost all the shine in her coat of long hair, and refuses to come into the house, preferring to remain in the garage. She is shedding her hair and it comes out in big clumps. The skin on her back near her tail is flaking off, like large dandruff, and the hairs have tiny black things on them near the base. This area is very itchy and when it is touched, she goes into an involuntary biting spasm. She also has small scabs on her skin spread all over her body. - Click
