Cat waking up at nightMy cat is 9 years old and I introduced a puppy to the mixture 2 ½ years ago. Over the last few months the cat has started waking me up in the middle of the night, sometimes 4 and 5 times a night. At first it was to be fed or for fresh water, but lately it seems it is reoccurring more often and for no reason. I have tried making sure both his food and water dishes were full before going to bed, I have spent more time in the evening with him, but it doesn't seem to matter. Please help.
Cat tremors after flea treatmentI bought this flea application for dogs and used it on my cats, the people at the store said it would be okay. Now my two male cats are shaking and disorented but my female seems to be okay. My one male cat is 5yrs old and the other is 1.5 yrs old. I applied it last night about 6pm and at 3am I woke up and found the two male cats shaking and like having seizers. I gave them a bath to try and wash this stuff off them. What can I do. Is there any thing that will help??
Kitten with big tummyWe live remotely and were handed a very young kitten found in a parking lot at 4-5 weeks of age. The day after, we had our travelling vet (who is has since left her parctice and was not noted to be very good anyway), examine the kitten and gave him rabies and other needed shots and a worm pill that handles all parasites. We noted the kitten's stomach was swollen and she said it could be worms or overeating, but that it was fine. If it was worms the pill should take care of it she said. The kitten is doing great, full of energy, eating, and very happy, but its swollen stomach is still huge and shiny and just feels so large for the size kitten and odd. We have four other cats and I do not remember them being like this as a kitten. I can not find anything on teh Internet indicating any problems this could be other than parasites and overeating. Overeating certainly is a possibility as it seems like it is always eating. So my question is: is it normal for a kitten's stomach to feel like a small squishy apple that is very obvious and if not, is it likely overeating? The nearest vet is hours away by boat and then car (we live on an island) so I don't want to overreact or underreact - it has been like this since we got the kitten.
Feline Asthma treatmentTwo years ago she was diagnosed with Feline Asthma and prescribed Delta Albaplex. It only comes in pill form and at 70 years old with arthritis, it's getting very hard and painful for me to give her this pill. Is there any other medication that would be easier for me to administer? Also she still has coughing fits 4-5 times daily. She still eats and acts normal otherwise.
Valley fever and catsMy cat has a large open wound on his fore leg that has been cultured and diagnosed as being infected with Valley Fever. Our vet has advised us to keep the wound clean and always covered and to avoid contact as the infection is contageous. We are giving Sam C-Fluconazole 25mg twice a day and have been advised that we may need to keep up this treatment for up to 6 months. So far after 2 months we have seen no improvement and the cat has lost much of his body weight. My concern is about the potential danger to our other pets and to ourselves from exposure to Sam. I am a diabetic and seem to catch things easily. I have been hospitalized on IV antibiotics for infections on two occasions. Sam has free rein of the house and yard area. He is often on the kitchen counters where food is prepared. Are we(ourselves or our dog) in danger of catching this infection from Sam directly or through his fecal matter or other contact? What precautions should we take to protect ourselves.
Stray cats and the coldI have been feeding some outdoor cats and have become quite fond of them. They are now in my secured yard. I live in the Midwest, Illinois to be exact and must leave the cats outdoors during the winter months due to allegeries my husband has. Right now I have a section of the garage for them to use during the night and inclement weather. But I am concerned about the winter here in Illinois and how to keep them warm. Do you have any suggestions? ( I know other people keep cats outdoors here but I do not know how they do it!!!) |

Cat losing hair with itchy skin
About a month ago my female neutered Siamese mix cat lost all the shine in her coat of long hair, and refuses to come into the house, preferring to remain in the garage. She is shedding her hair and it comes out in big clumps. The skin on her back near her tail is flaking off, like large dandruff, and the hairs have tiny black things on them near the base. This area is very itchy and when it is touched, she goes into an involuntary biting spasm. She also has small scabs on her skin spread all over her body. - Click
