Cat biting tail and back legs

My cat bites the fur around her hindquarters and is starting to do the same on the underside of her tail. She has no rash or infection. How can this be prevented before she removes all the hair from her tail?

Cat lymph nodes

Two nights ago I was petting my cat and giving her a really good chin rub. I was rubbing under her jaw and happened to feel her lymph nodes. I haven't felt them before, but she was in a different position than she usually is when I pet her, which allowed me to feel her jaw at a different angle than usual. The lymph nodes on both sides are exactly the same size. They are both about the size of a pea, maybe slightly larger than that. They are shaped like an oblong pea, kind of like a lima bean. Since I never touched her lymph nodes before, I have no idea if they have always been this size. I've been trying to find information on line regarding the normal size of a cat's lymph nodes, but have not had much luck. Do hers sound like they are enlarged to you, or is this normal? As a side note, her sister (they were littermates) also lives with us. Her sister is quite a bit chubbier, so it's a little harder to feel her lymph nodes. However, from what I can feel, the sister's are the same size - about pea size, maybe a little bit larger. She is due to go to the vet for her vaccinations in February. I'm trying to determine if she needs to go sooner because of these lymph nodes. Also, I've heard that with people, if you keep touching your lymph nodes, they can get inflamed and swollen. Ever since I discovered these lymph nodes, I keep touching them and re-checking them. If I keep touching them, will it irritate them and cause them to swell?

Obesity in cats

My kitty, Azu, is a large cat to begin with, but I am really starting to worry about her wieght. We feed her Hills R/D for her wieght. We have taken her to vets to try and determine what if any other reason besides eating could be the cause. So far none of the blood work or urinalysis have yielded anything unusual. She eats a half of cup of R/D a day. My mother may "cheat" her some food, but I don't think that it is enough to cause this kind of wieght gain. She is 22lbs now. She was 19lbs when I brought her home from Denver 3 years ago. My girlfriend works for a vet and she has offered the therory that it could be a glandular disorder. I am wondering if it is a genetic thing or if you have any ideas as to what it could be.

Cat defecating outside litter box

My cat and I moved into a new home. He now has three canine friends who he has spent time with before. One of the dogs was eating the felines stool, so I purchased the Purrforma self cleaning litter box. He would only urinate in it and chose to defecate on my side of the bed after 6 days. He attempted to defecate another time, I got him and placed him in the litter box, however that only worked once, and choose the bed again. Since then I purchased a new non automated litter box and returned him to his feline pine cat litter - that was two days ago and he has not eliminated anything since. I have been leaving the bedroom door closed so he is not tempted. I'm just waiting for him to use it. any thoughts? He is also doing an excessive amount of licking to the point where he has two balding patches. He just had an allergy shot 4 weeks ago. Should I inquire about behavioral modification type drugs?

Cat chewing paws

1. My cat has an area on each of her front paws that she has been chewing all of the fur off of for several months now. Recently she has also started on one of her back paws and has even created a sore. What could be the cause and is there anything I can do without taking her to the vet? She is a VERY SKIDDISH cat and sometimes I really think she will have a "heart attack" if we take her. 2. This same cat likes to sit on the kitchen counter and lick the photographs on the fridge. She loves this! Is this coating harmful to her? 3. Is it harmful if she has about a tablespoon of vanilla ice cream about once a week?

Cat feline herpesvirus treatment

my cat has been diagnosed with herpes virus which causes outbreaks of upper resp problems form time to time. He is treated with antibiotics which usually works. Before diagnosis he was treated with prednisone injection. Does this strenghten the virus? If so, for how long? What other treatments are recommended for virus?

Vet question of the day

Add to Dog digging carpet
My dog (5yo female neutered Blue Heeler mix) is outside during the day and inside at night. I've only had her for 6 months- I got her from a friend. During the past month, she started scratching at our carpets ruining them. She only scratches them around the walls never in middle of the floor. Why is she doing this and what can I do to get her to stop? - Click here to read the answer
