Letting stray cat outsideOne of my cats, Yeti, was a stray. He lived outside for a year or so, we think, before we were forced to take him in because of an injury. He was quarantined for 6 months. After that period, he seemed to have adjusted, so we kept him in. Recently, after 2 years, he has gotten out a few times. I have always been able to bring him back in, but I think he is really missing being outside. I brought him out on a harness recently, and he broke out of it (he has a lot of fur, so I apparently didn't put the harness on tight enough, but he had to pull hard and fast), and after bringing him back in, he just hasn't been the same. He seems so sad. He isn't acting as he used to. So, I am considering letting him out. My question is not whether or not to let him out, as that is a raging debate in itself. The question is, what could be the ramifications to my other two cats, who I intend to leave as indoor-only because they are both extremely skittish and I don't believe they would do well with automobiles and any other sudden noises. I'm concerned about fleas/ticks, diseases, and just their well-being, as they will be watching him from the inside. Do I try to make Yeti happy (even though I'd rather he were happy inside), or should I try to keep the status quo, so that I don't end up opening a can of worms with the other two cats? | |
Cat urinating on rugsI actually have three cats. But I am pretty sure it is my orange tabby that is having the problem. Her name is XXXX. We recently purchased a very expensive area rug. And maybe it is a coincidence, but ever since she has been defecating on it. She actually did it in front of us once, but usually we find them after the fact. Sometimes the stools appear normal and sometimes they are loose and very light colored. She does not seem sick and is eating and drinking normally. I have also seen her using the litter box...we don't know what to do...should we have her checked for intestinal problems? We have a rug shampooer and we are using an enzmatic cleaner but is there anything else we can do? Should we get a new litter box? All of our cats are usually so good about using the box...we have had all three of them for about the same amount of time. We are very worried about her...and about our new rug a little bit too. She had a similar problem last fall and the vet came to the house and said that there wasn't much we could do if she had some inflammtion in her rectum or intestinal tract..we just had to wait it out...is this really the ONLY thing we can do? |

Dog with fleas
Last night my 7yo female neutered maltese was scatching a little & I noticed that the day before she did a little too. I rolled her over to look through her and found a flea...then 2 more a little bit later. I immediately ran to the store and bought Sergeants flea control that you put on their back between the shoulder blades & put that on her immediatedly. I washed all of her bedding & have vaccumed the house at least 3 times since. We have a huge 2 level house and the dog is 99.9% of the time on our main level in our living room & dining room. I found only 2 today...and that was early this morning...I have not seen any since...but am scared to death of how many fleas are in our house that I cannot see. I am afraid they are crawling everywhere & don't know where to start. The dog sometimes goes upstairs in our bedrooms.....I am afraid these pests could be in closets & etc....any advice would be greatly appreciated! - Click
