Cat licking sores on bodyI've noticed that my cat has gotten a sore on her body and her leg, presumably from licking herself in those spots repeatedly. What is the usual cause of that behavior and how can we resolve it?
Cat urinating problemsWe've had our cat since she was a kitten, and she always used the litter properly. Recently in the past year she has been urinating all over the house. We ended up replacing a carpeted room with hard wood floors, and that stopped the problem for a few months, but now she is back at it again in another room, and spot areas of the house. She has been to a vet, and they did an analysis of her urine. They say she is fine. How can we stop this? We clean up her spots with deodorizing spray, but she continues this. She always deficates in the box. We do have another cat, so we have 2 litter boxes. We've tried everything the vets have said, but nothing works. New box without a cover, unscented litter, tin foil in spots. Should we lock her in the bathroom with the litter for awhile? Should we get her on medication? I've read up on this, so I know the common diagnosis, like a urinary tract infection. This isn't physcial, it's all in her head? My parents are about to give her up in a week, but then she'll probably continue this and someone will put her asleep. Can you please suggest something? Thank you
Letting stray cat outsideOne of my cats, Yeti, was a stray. He lived outside for a year or so, we think, before we were forced to take him in because of an injury. He was quarantined for 6 months. After that period, he seemed to have adjusted, so we kept him in. Recently, after 2 years, he has gotten out a few times. I have always been able to bring him back in, but I think he is really missing being outside. I brought him out on a harness recently, and he broke out of it (he has a lot of fur, so I apparently didn't put the harness on tight enough, but he had to pull hard and fast), and after bringing him back in, he just hasn't been the same. He seems so sad. He isn't acting as he used to. So, I am considering letting him out. My question is not whether or not to let him out, as that is a raging debate in itself. The question is, what could be the ramifications to my other two cats, who I intend to leave as indoor-only because they are both extremely skittish and I don't believe they would do well with automobiles and any other sudden noises. I'm concerned about fleas/ticks, diseases, and just their well-being, as they will be watching him from the inside. Do I try to make Yeti happy (even though I'd rather he were happy inside), or should I try to keep the status quo, so that I don't end up opening a can of worms with the other two cats?
Cat urinating on rugsI actually have three cats. But I am pretty sure it is my orange tabby that is having the problem. Her name is XXXX. We recently purchased a very expensive area rug. And maybe it is a coincidence, but ever since she has been defecating on it. She actually did it in front of us once, but usually we find them after the fact. Sometimes the stools appear normal and sometimes they are loose and very light colored. She does not seem sick and is eating and drinking normally. I have also seen her using the litter box...we don't know what to do...should we have her checked for intestinal problems? We have a rug shampooer and we are using an enzmatic cleaner but is there anything else we can do? Should we get a new litter box? All of our cats are usually so good about using the box...we have had all three of them for about the same amount of time. We are very worried about her...and about our new rug a little bit too. She had a similar problem last fall and the vet came to the house and said that there wasn't much we could do if she had some inflammtion in her rectum or intestinal tract..we just had to wait it out...is this really the ONLY thing we can do? |

Dog digging carpet
My dog (5yo female neutered Blue Heeler mix) is outside during the day and inside at night. I've only had her for 6 months- I got her from a friend. During the past month, she started scratching at our carpets ruining them. She only scratches them around the walls never in middle of the floor. Why is she doing this and what can I do to get her to stop?
