Cat refusing to eat

We bought a cat (3yo female neutered Maine Coon) one week ago and seems to be in excellent health. She is very active and craves attention but we are unable to entice her to eat. We have tried the same food the breeder gave her as well as the formula that she ate while weening her one and only litter and also the food our other two Maine Coon's eat. Nothing has worked; not even fancy albacore tuna. She is quite shy by nature so we have tried to isolate her from any distractions but nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

Vaccinations for older cat

My cat (1yo female tabby) has not had her injections which make it safe for her to go outside. I know they are supposed to have one at 9 weeks, and a further one. She's now 1, can we still get these injections to enable her to go outside....what sort of procedure should I follow?

Cat with torn claws

Last night Oliver (our 5yo DSH male neutered cat) was spooked by our other cat Samantha (who got stuck in a bag). He was so scared by this, that he dug his back-claws into the carpet and forgot to release them and took off running (fronts have been declawed), tearing 4 of them out and damaging the rest of them. It was very bloody and took us a while to get the bleeding to stop. We put him on a blanket and let him lay there all night till he cleaned up his feet and they stopped bleeding. We did try wrapping them in guaze, but he kept getting them off. This morning we soked his feet for 5 minutes in Benatine & warm water and we will continue to do so 2x a day for 5 days or until they look ok. Are we doing what we should for him? What else should we do? Will these 4 claws grow back? Will the others fall out? We are trying to avoid a trip to the vet as he gets so tramatized by that. He really is the poster-child for SCAREDY CAT!

Signs of a cat on heat

We own 3 cats and this is the 4th we saved from the streets - we had her vet checked and she got a clean bill of health but the vet said she's likely NOT to be neutered. With our 3 who are neutered, we've never seen them on heat. My question is how we know if Puddles (the new cat) is on heat - presently she's been crying loudly and acting very strange - I just wanted to know if this is 'normal' or if she's ill. Other than the crying and wanting to go out, she's been active and playing and eating (seems to be off her food slightly).

Cat scratching ears constantly

We live in Denver, CO, in a very dry environment. All of our animals scratch themselves a lot, but my cat Lucy (5yo female Siamese mix neutered) has scratched behind her ears so much that she has broken the skin. A scab developed, and the wound was healing, but last night she went crazy and would not stop scratching. She broke the skin again. I wonder if you can recommend a solution to the problem? Is there something I can apply topically to help comfort her itching? Do I need to take her to the vet to get a cone put on her head? I was thinking of applying Neosporin, but I was hesitant to use a people medication on my cute little cat. Could you offer advice on what the best plan of attack would be to get her to stop scratching and let her ear heal?

Cat coughing up hairball now off food and straining to urinate

My cat (4yo mixed breed male neutered cat) couphed up a hair ball a couple of days ago and now he won't eat like he used to. Hes' very lethargic and his meow is getting quiter. He will sit in his litter box for awhile like he is trying to go but nothing is coming out. Today he sat in front of his water bowl and didn't drink anything. I'm starting to get real concerned for him.

Vet question of the day

Add to Dog limping after jumping on owner
About a week ago when I came home from work I let my dog (2yo female neutered German Shepherd) Sophie out of her kennel and she jumped up on me(as she always does)to greet me and her right foot was caught in my sweater for just a few seconds. Later on in the day I noticed she was favoring that foot or leg. She doesn't whine or yelp like she has pain, but she has been limping for a week now. What could she have done to her leg? A sprain maybe? I touch up and down from shoulder to foot and it doesn't seem to bother her. Please help me. She wants to play with my other German Shepherd and I don't know what to do or what is wrong. Thanks for your time. - Click here to read the answer
