Kitten not eating cat food

We had the kitten shortly after birth. He is now 5 weeks old. We received feeding and care advice from a vet, and the kitten is doing very well. Eyes have changed from blue to greenish cat-like structure. He runs, plays, and is mostly litterbox trained. The question I have is related to making the switch to solid food. His teeth are in and are sharp, and he ravages the bottle's nipple. However all attempts to feed him oceanfish kitten food (wet) are futile. He has no desire whatsoever. I tried mixing it with KMR, tried it alone, and again, to no avail. After a week of this with no luck, we accidentaly found out after a barbeque, that he loves hamburger. As a subsequent experiment, we found out that he also loves turkey. I mixed a very tiny bit into some wet kitten food, and he loves it, but usually eats the meat and only the surrounding kitten food, and then leaves it alone. I don't want the kitten hooked on human food, as I am sure it isn't healthy. Any suggestions as far as accomplishing this weaning process using recommended pet food?

Cat licking fur till bald

I have had my cat (she's 8years old now - American shorthair) since she was a kitten and has been is very good health since then. She has always been very good at keeping herself clean but in the past month or two I have noticed she has been licking her stomach and hind legs more than just cleaning. The fur in those areas is getting very thin and she keeps loosing more everyday. She doesn't have any sores of any kind. What can I do to stop her from licking these areas and how to get her fur to grow back?

Cat with urinary problems

I have a cat that is just over a year old. She was supposed to be spayed by a RVT where I work. For about 2 months now, she's been howling and screeching at all hours of the day and night. I took her to the vet, and they did a urinalysis, they said they couldn't see anything. I don't have the money to pay for a lab test, so I put her on Clavamox for a full cycle, and baby aspirin. After the cycle she quieted down for a little while. Then about a week later it started again. So I tried the Clavamox and baby aspirin again. Same thing, she quieted down for a few days. And, once again, it came back. She urinates in a few, specific places around the house, outside the litter box. She yowls and howls, and rubs up against everything and one. She sits with her bottom in the air with her tail raised. She constantly is licking her tail area. I feed her Iams adult food, and use Arm and Hammer scoopable litter. So, I'm confused as to whether she has a repeat UTI or if the spaying was botched. What should I do? I don't have a bunch of money for a bunch of tests if she just needs a re-spaying. I know it's hard to know without examining her, but I would appreciate your best guess as to the problem. Thanks!

Cat acting out of sorts

My cat (1yo Siamese cross female neutered) has been acting really strange lately. She wont hardly eat anything but appears to want to, she hardly drinks anything only plays with the water. I only use ceramic bowls. She has completely stopped cleaning her fur and her gums are a pale color. She also has been licking her lips alot. Please help me know what this could be and if i should see a vet.

Cat with enlarged intestinal lymph nodes

My sweet, beloved cat, Sebastian, just had surgery yesterday to remove a partial blockage in his intestine. Once in, the vet found thickening of the intestinal wall and several enlarged lymph nodes. One was 3 inches! She took biopsies of both and sent them out to a pathologist. I won't get results until next week. My questions is...is there a chance this could be anything but lymphoma? I have done alot of reading on the web about lymphoma and inflammatory bowel disease. AFter reading, I'm convinced his tests will come back positive for lymphoma. He has always been vaccinated for Feline Leukemia and has never tested positive. He is primary an indoor cat, only allowed outside for short periods when we are home. He hunts but doesn't eat his kill. He has always had occasional bouts with vomiting. He will vomit undigested food right after eating. Every summer, he usually goes through a period of daily vomiting. I will bring him to the vet and she will give him a dewormer, although she has never found worms in his feces, which seems to stop the daily vomiting. HE seems to have always been uncomfortable when the vet pushes in the intestinal area. He had an enema as a kitten because she thought this was due to constipation. These symptoms lead me to think inflammatory bowel disease, but nothing I have read indicates there would be enlarged lymph nodes, nor has he ever had diarrhea. There have been no changes in his demeanor. This trip to the vet was initiated after 4 consecutive days of vomiting. She gave him the usual dewormer shot and a shot to stop the vomiting. It didn't help. After taking x-rays, she found an elarged area of his intestine and recommended exploratory surgery to relieve the blockage. We are so depressed and fear the worst.

Cat sucking behavior

I have a 5 month old Kitten (domestic short hair, neutered) that ever since she was neutered at age 12 weeks she sucks one of her nipples. I can't get her to stop. Now I just got a 12 week old kitten and she is now wanting to suck the 5 month old kitten's nipple too. Why are they doing this and how can I get them to stop?

Vet question of the day

Add to Dog fainting episodes
Actually I am the breeder of Saint Bernard dogs and have been for about 6 years. My question involves a puppy who I placed at 7 weeks of age; he was the largest of the litter and absolutely had no problems from birth until last month(about 5months of age) when he had a fainting spell. His name is Brutis; he apparently was in the back seat of the car, with his chest and paws hanging over the front seat and he passed out(he had no collar on at the time), once they layed him on the ground he woke back up, no convulsions or anything else noted other than his eyes rolled back. He was brought to the vet, EKG and heart examination was normal, they called it a syncopal episode, but did not go into explanation what caused it. Well last week, at 6 months of age it happened again, at the vets office and it was witnessed. Brutis was extremely excited and stressed, pulling at his collar and did not want to be put on the scale, he then passed out, falling to the floor. His heartrate was taken immediately and they said it was normal and they are taking bloodwork. This episode does not last long, about 10 seconds and no convulsions, or stiffening of muscles. I, as the breeder, am very concerned about this and would like to know several things 1)what could be the actual cause of this if it is not related to his heart 2)are there any other tests/specific bloodwork that you would recommend we have done 3)can over excitement/stress or pulling on the leash cause this problem by itself, and if every other ailment is ruled out and this is a 'vagal response' as they called it at the vet, is this heriditary or a genetic condition? when I asked my vet he said that if all physical problems are ruled out, this may be more an individual problem than a genetic one. Absolutely none of my breeding saints have had heart problems, epilepsy, eye disorders, etc, so I am totally baffled about this situation. - Click here to read the answer
