Cat with sores around lipsAbout a week ago i noticed my cat(5 mo male neutered domestic short haired cat) had dry blood on his two paws. I wasnt sure were he got the blood from. Then i noticed he was bleeding from his nose. but not from inside his nose ,but from the part between the two holes and about the mouth. He allso has sores all around his lips. The worst ones are on the corners of his lips. The sores have allso been bleeding here and there. He also gets this gooey like stuff around his mouth after he eats. its like saliva but its thick. I wipe it off but later on its back again. His mouth area allso stinks. i know cats mouths are supposed to stink but this is a lot worse than how my other cat smells. Could you tell me what may be wrong with my little Spaze?
Mother cat ignoring kittensMy female cat (8yo DSH female) has just 4 days ago had two kittens, is it normal for her to leave them alone. At first she stayed with them .now she checks on them but will not nurse them. Do they just sleep the first week. she knows what to do..maybe I should just trust her instincts.
Cat weak and vomitingMy cat (6yo male neutered domestic short haired) lives indoors and outdoors. Recently it became very weak and cant walk much and is not eating for the last two days. It either through vomit or excretia gave out black stools or vomit, not sure whether it was vomit or excretia. It was seen eating mud, so my mom has kept it inside and is giving it electrolyte fluids through a small spoon. Its tough to hold his particular cat, we have 3 more and a dog, so my mom with help wrapped it with a towel to avoid it from scratching and struggling and the vet gave it a poison antidote injection. Earlier on it had a wound on the neck from a fight with the other cat, and we had treated it with antibiotics. It was limping before because it had jumped from the roof down. Right now its weak, hardly can walk lying on my mom's bed, while she is feeding it electrolyte fluids. My mom and dad live up in a small town atop the mountains of southern india where there are three vets and none of them are very good. This one vet we use is the best of the lot who actually cares a lot of the animals and wanted me to seek outside help so that he can act on it.
Scabs on cat not healingWe have three cats. One is 19, one is 5, and one is 1 years old. They are all neutered. The 5 year old, Leo and the one year old play and wrestle. Leo has scabs under his neck and around his head. I think they began as play bites but now he keeps scratching at them. I clean them every so often and place neosporin on them so they won't get infected. Everytime they heal he scratches them back open again. I have clipped his back nails rather short and he still manages to make more sores. I am getting worried about him because they are not healing and I imagine he is in pain. He is eating and drinking and socializing with us and the others. The other two cats do not have the scabs so its isolated to Leo. I think he just can't stop scratching. I know they give e-collars to dogs...do they cats as well? Would that help or there something else going on?
Geriatric cat with allergies and arthritis contemplating euthanasiaMy cat, Miss Kittie, is about 15 years old (female neutered Calico cat). We've had her since she was born. She's mainly an inside cat. About 6 years ago she started having problems with itchy ears. At about the same time she also started limping on her back right leg. Long story short, she has an allergy to something, don't know what exactly. She also has arthritis in both back legs (worse in the right leg) and on her back next to her tail. Her vet gave her prednisone for the allergy and nothing for the arthritis. We've been working to get releif for Miss Kittie. The Prednisone worked, but her vet won't let her stay on it, they have taken it away from her. She is now so miserable, she doesn't sleep that much and is always trying to scratch at her ears or licking the air. She is also limping worse every day. I am not sure what I should do at this point. The problem is that we are getting ready to have some major construction done on our house, the room where Miss Kittie has her box is going to be torn down. I am trying to get her to use a kitty door to go out to the garage to use her box, but she has a hard time getting through the door because of her stiffness. Everytime she moves she makes a little noise like she's hurting and she Meows at me every time I walk by her, even if she's sleeping, she wakes up and mow's at me. I am wondering if it is time to think about putting her to sleep?? It kills me to even think about it, but she's miserable. Each time I talk to her vet about this, they just want to put her on some more drugs. She is taking an anti-histamine, a pill for Hyperthyroid, and was taking Prednisone. She is not a good traveler and hates going in the car to go to the vet. Her vet wants me to take her to an allergy specialist and I don't think she'll handle that too well. What do I do???? At this point I am putting pills in her food and them forcing 2 pills a day down her throat. Is it time to let her go?? Please help me make a decision. I feel terrible just thinking about it, but everybody says I'm letting her live for me, not for her!!! I hope I didn't ramble too much and you can make sense of this! Thank you!
Cat losing hairMissy (13mo American Shorthair, neutered female) has always been a playful cat, with a personality all her own. For the past 5-7 days, I've noticed she's losing a lot of hair. I've gone from brushing her 2-3 times a week to twice a day. The amount of hair is probably double than what I usually comb out. Along with the shedding/loss of hair, she has also developed white flakes, like some sort of dry skin problem or dandruff. Her appitite is still the same, although she sleeps more and isn't as playful. Just the other day, I also noticed a sore on the top of her head, just behind the ear. The area is reddened and the hair around the sore is completely gone. I think she's getting another one across from this sore. I'm also finding an abnormal amount of loose hair all over my house. If she passes by a fan or a breeze comes through, the hair just falls off of her. She never goes outside with the exception of the screened-in area at the front door and occasionally in the garage. Any assistance you can offer Missy and myself would greatly be appreciated. |

Cat losing hair with itchy skin
About a month ago my female neutered Siamese mix cat lost all the shine in her coat of long hair, and refuses to come into the house, preferring to remain in the garage. She is shedding her hair and it comes out in big clumps. The skin on her back near her tail is flaking off, like large dandruff, and the hairs have tiny black things on them near the base. This area is very itchy and when it is touched, she goes into an involuntary biting spasm. She also has small scabs on her skin spread all over her body. - Click
