Cat with itchy patch on face

My kitten (11mo Calico female neutered cat) has a spot on her cheek where a patch of hair is gone. The area appears to be raw because I think it itches her. What can I put on it to make it stop itching her until I can take her to the vet?

Cat with sore on hip

Hi -- My 16 year old male neutered DSH cat has a sore on his hip area. It's been there for about 2 weeks. There's no fur left in the area, which is about as big as a half dollar, and it looks like there is puss. He doesn't seem to be in pain, he is not licking or biting it, and there are no blood or scabs. We have no idea what started it. It looks sort of like a burn would on a person (but it's not a burn). What, if anything, should I do about this? Is it worth calling my vet, or will it just heal in time? Is there an ointment I should be applying or some other treatment? Since he doesn't seem to be in pain we were just hoping it would heal. Thanks for your advice!

Cat recovering from hepatic lipidosis-fatty liver disease

My Silver Tabby (8yo female neutered) is now recovering nicely, from Hepatic Lipidosis, and is eating and drinking on her own.She now weighs 8 pounds, and is active and playful.I can feel her ribs, but they have a covering of fat, so I'm wondering, is this a good weight for her? She eats about a quarter of a cup of Feline Iams Adult Maintenance a day, and that has recently increased a bit.Is that enough? Most of the time when I'm at work, she sleeps, and is active in the evening. Thanks!

Cat wheezing and coughing

We have been feeding a feral stray cat (probably over 10 years old, he's a Domestic Short Haired neutered male) for 6 years now. We trapped him early on and had him vacinated and neutered. For years now he's been coughing and wheezing. At times he gets worse and has nasal and eye discharge but that eventually clears up. We trapped him again and took him to the vet. Several of his teeth fell out while being examined and he has severe dental disease. The vet said his coughing and wheezing were probably due to his dental disease and his lungs "didn't sound that bad". Have you heard of dental disease causing respiratory problems or should we go for another opinion?

Cat with sore on head

He (my 6yo MaineCoon neutered male cat) has been spending more time in the house the last month. The question: He developed a sore spot on the top of his head and the hair has been coming out in a circumference of about 3/4 of an inch around the sore spot. I have been treating it with bag balm (cow sauve) and a antibotic first aid spray for cats which contains natural oat extract. Active ingredient is benzalkonium chloride. It is healing and scabbing up, but He keeps scratching at it and opening it up. Should I put something on, that would prevent him from doing that? I.E. bandaid. We just had him microchipped, and he had an exam and was prounounced healthy. Two days later this started. Prior to this he had a sore on his side that seemed to be similar, but no hair loss, but it finally disappeared with him chewing at it. Could this be something serious.

Cat constipation

Cookie (14yo male neutered DSH cat) has chronic constipation and sometimes he gets so blocked up that he throws up and has VERY LARGE bowel movements outside his litter box (he is very clean and never messes outside his box) other times it takes him an hour or so to go, he'll go from his litter box to his basket and when he is in his basket he sits on his side with his back leg moving up and down and his rectum contracting. About a year ago he started to drink a lot of water and lost weight, and about the same time he started getting sick from his food (wet or dry) that contains fish and beef. However, he can eat real beef and fish with no problem. We have been giving him hairball treats daily hoping that this would help increase his fiber but it doesn't always work. We can't take him to the vet anymore (the 3 he has been to have ALL asked us NOT to bring him back) he is a VERY BAD patient even under sedation he scratches and BITES anyone even us. Other wise he is FINE, he eats, sleeps, plays and cuddles. We HOPE you can help us help Cookie!!

Vet question of the day

Add to Dog with fleas
Last night  my 7yo female neutered maltese was scatching a little & I noticed that the day before she did a little too.  I rolled her over to look through her and found a flea...then 2 more a little bit later.  I immediately ran to the store and bought Sergeants flea control that you put on their back between the shoulder blades & put that on her immediatedly.  I washed all of her bedding & have vaccumed the house at least 3 times since.  We have a huge 2 level house and the dog is 99.9% of the time on our main level in our living room & dining room.  I found only 2 today...and that was early this morning...I have not seen any since...but am scared to death of how many fleas are in our house that I cannot see.  I am afraid they are crawling everywhere & don't know where to start.  The dog sometimes goes upstairs in our bedrooms.....I am afraid these pests could be in closets & etc....any advice would be greatly appreciated! - Click here to read the answer
