Recently visited a relative of mine who daily feeds 25 to 50 stray, wild, and border line tame cats. Many I saw have eye infections, and other problems I could recognize visually, possible skin disorders, hair missing from tails and hind quarters. Most likely many of them also have parasites. They are all congregated together for a daily food sourse. Was wondering if there was a general antibiotic to be given orally to a feline population with diverse illnesses and ages of both genders.I realize this is an odd situation, would like to help this person out as much as possible, any advice you can give would be very much appreciated!!Thank you.

Cat with hyperesthesia syndrome - twitch cat disease

My Bengal cat (2yo male neutered) is thought to have feline hyperesthesia syndrome. He is constantly rubbing up against thinks, licking his tail and lower back, darting off wildly and has a very sensitive lower back area. He rolls aroung on his back alot as though it is itching. When he was castrated at the age of about 9 months, he became terribly sick, he was taken to the vets and eventually found to have an abnormal swelling that had been caused by the operation. He was given anti-inflammatories and antibiotics and this seemed to clear but was left with a bald patch in this area (top of spine). He has displayed this behaviour for some time, hard to say exactly when it started. Could you please explain what this illness is and is it life threatening. I understand that medication can be given. Is the he in any pain?

Cat with hair loss and dandruff

One of my cats (7yo female neutered DSH), has what looks like a dry skin problem. She is completely black except for her stomach and bottom of her paws which are white. 3 mos ago she lost some fur on her forepaws which the local vet diagnosed as a flea allergy. She had one dose of frontline. I saw that the frontline was an insecticide which I felt uncomfotable giving them. I started her on a B-vitamin for cats which was to create a flea repellant. (It is called Flea-Tabs) The B-vitamin has actually made her fur better. However I have noticed one thing. Just after she had the frontline, I started seeing very minute white flake speckles in her fur, not alot but when I brush her more come out. I thought these were flea eggs, but she doesn't seem bothered by them and is not scratching. They look like dandruff. My question is what could these be?

Cat with itchy patch on face

My kitten (11mo Calico female neutered cat) has a spot on her cheek where a patch of hair is gone. The area appears to be raw because I think it itches her. What can I put on it to make it stop itching her until I can take her to the vet?

Cat with sore on hip

Hi -- My 16 year old male neutered DSH cat has a sore on his hip area. It's been there for about 2 weeks. There's no fur left in the area, which is about as big as a half dollar, and it looks like there is puss. He doesn't seem to be in pain, he is not licking or biting it, and there are no blood or scabs. We have no idea what started it. It looks sort of like a burn would on a person (but it's not a burn). What, if anything, should I do about this? Is it worth calling my vet, or will it just heal in time? Is there an ointment I should be applying or some other treatment? Since he doesn't seem to be in pain we were just hoping it would heal. Thanks for your advice!

Cat recovering from hepatic lipidosis-fatty liver disease

My Silver Tabby (8yo female neutered) is now recovering nicely, from Hepatic Lipidosis, and is eating and drinking on her own.She now weighs 8 pounds, and is active and playful.I can feel her ribs, but they have a covering of fat, so I'm wondering, is this a good weight for her? She eats about a quarter of a cup of Feline Iams Adult Maintenance a day, and that has recently increased a bit.Is that enough? Most of the time when I'm at work, she sleeps, and is active in the evening. Thanks!

Add to Female cat with bloody discharge from vagina
Our (1yo female DSH) neutered cat (neutered prior to our ownership) has had intermittent small volume bloody discharge from her vagina for the last 3 months. On exam her vulva had an ulcerated area and our veternarian is planning an exam under anesthesia later this week. She has no weight loss, a healthy appetite, and has had no change in activity. She is the only animal in our home. What do you believe this could be? - Click here to read the answer
