Cat scratch and rabiesI'm not sure if my question should go to a people-doctor or not....I have a call in to my family doctor, but thought I'd get another opinion from a vet since I'm sure you're familiar with the rabies virus. There is a stray cat that has been living in our neighborhood for several years. I've slowly been taming it and have gotten it to allow me to pet him. Last night I noticed that the cat was walking with a severe limp and had a wound on his face. My husband and I decided to bring him into our home, and then take him to a vet in the morning. I picked him up and he didn't fight me at first, so I proceeded with carrying him into the house. When I got near the door, he got scared and thrashed around, got loose and hobbled off into the night. I can't find him now. When he got out of my arms, he scratched me (not a bite, just a scratch). I washed the scratch out and put antibiotic cream on it and it shows no sign of infection so far. My concern is, can rabies be transmitted thru a cat scratch? I always thought you had to be bitten by an animal to contract rabies, but when I was reading online, it sounds like there could be other modes of transmission too. Like I said, I do have a call in to my family doctor, but I thought since vets deal with rabies, you could give me another opinion. Thanks!

Cat with cut on eyeMy 8yo Calico female neutered cat has a cut on her nose by one eye that bleeds and oozes liquid. I want to use an antibacterial ointment (or something) to help close it up, but both A&D and Neosporin say not to apply near eyes. What do you suggest? I haven't taken her to the vet because she is deathly afraid of going, and fights with her sister on returning, which would probably make the wound worse.
Cat losing hair with itchy skinAbout a month ago my female neutered Siamese mix cat lost all the shine in her coat of long hair, and refuses to come into the house, preferring to remain in the garage. She is shedding her hair and it comes out in big clumps. The skin on her back near her tail is flaking off, like large dandruff, and the hairs have tiny black things on them near the base. This area is very itchy and when it is touched, she goes into an involuntary biting spasm. She also has small scabs on her skin spread all over her body.

Cat with sore on hip
Hi -- My 16 year old male neutered DSH cat has a sore on his hip area. It's been there for about 2 weeks. There's no fur left in the area, which is about as big as a half dollar, and it looks like there is puss. He doesn't seem to be in pain, he is not licking or biting it, and there are no blood or scabs. We have no idea what started it. It looks sort of like a burn would on a person (but it's not a burn). What, if anything, should I do about this? Is it worth calling my vet, or will it just heal in time? Is there an ointment I should be applying or some other treatment? Since he doesn't seem to be in pain we were just hoping it would heal. Thanks for your advice!
