cat losing voice and depressed
My Cat (5yo male neutered domestic short hair) has for the past 4.75 years always lived in a flat and has never been outside. I have recently moved to a ground floor house with internal courtyard so he can go outside. About 1 month ago I got a female kitten of 8 weeks in age. He has grown used to her and tolerates her. My sister has just arrived from Britain and has a one year old boy and I think that the adult cat has become jealous. Last Sunday night he ventured to see me and went to miaow but has lost his voice. He also vommited clear mucas, but it has now stopped. He still has no voice and is slowly losing his appetite, but I notice him still eating a little, drinking a little and I have noticed some small stools in his cat tray. He seems to not want my company and is afraid of me all of a sudden. I am worried as he is usually a very vocal cat and now he seems to have a sore throat. He also seems very down in the dumps and sad and I cannot figure out what is bothering him. He has not vomitted since Monday night, but sometimes it seems as if he wants to cough something up. The first time he brought up mucas it had some hair in it but the second time round no. He does not seem to be in pain as I can rub his throat and he doesn't seem to mind. Do you have any advice as to what may be wrong. I am taking him to the vet today but I would like as much information as possible. He is short haired cat but he has a lot of hair and now he is starting to malt so I will start brushing now. Any information would be very much appreciated as I am very worried about him, he seems rather depressed. |

Dog with problems walking
When I came home from work yesterday, Sparrow(6yo female neutered mix breed), who stays in my basement with access to the crawl space under the house, was having trouble going up the stairs. She seemed sick - hot nose & depressed. She has a knot midway up her tail about the size of a quarter. Her hindquarters are slightly swollen and tender. Her behind was dirty with dust, some fecal matter, and little black dots that looked like flea eggs (she doesn't have fleas - she's on med from the vet.) It seemed she had been dragging her bottom on the ground. My gut feeling is that she may have been bitten by a spider or god forbid a snake (in my basement?!!) but I'm also worried that she's hurt her back. She can still walk - even jump on the bed - but she is not moving correctly. She is still eating and drinking. She's not any worse this morning, but no better. She's not limping, but she acts stiff - is not moving her hind legs with ease, but I don't see where they look out of whack. For example, when she goes up steps, she just goes one step at a time, very slowly and carefully when she usually bounds & skips steps. It doesn't look like she's knuckling over, and her feet and legs look normal. Another thought after babying her this morning - she has had trouble in the past with her anal glands being blocked. Usually I try to massage & expel them when I bathe her. I haven't noticed her dragging her butt, which usually happens when her glands are filled and need expelling, but is it possible this could be the problem? Or constipation?
