Male cat and perineal urethrostomy
My 2yo male cat had perineal urethrostomy surgery in late June for FLUTD. Since then, the urethral opening has started to scar shut 4 or 5 times, reducing his ability to urinate to a trickle. When I notice the symptoms (small puddles, frequent trips to the litter box, licking), I take him to the vet right away. The vet inserts a catheter and stretches the opening and the cat is good again for another 10-14 days. The vet is talking now about sewing a catheter in place and letting him scar down around the catheter. Can you tell me if this is a frequent problem and what the treatment option are? |
