Dog with black spot on tongue4 months ago our dog (9mo female neutered Siberian Husky) chewed through and extension cord and we took her to the vet. She had a tooth pulled because of this and a huge section of the side of her tongue fell off, she was on antibiotics and everything seemed to heal 100% according to the vet. About 3 weeks ago she was spayed and a week after the surgery she's developed a small black dot that it right on the inside of the chip in her tongue, exactly where the previous injury was. It seems to have gotten larger in the past 2 weeks and it seems like it must be related to the original injury because it's exactly on the healed part of her tongue. Her behavior and eating habits are normal, and it doesnt seem to hurt when we press on it. Please let us know what this may be a sign of. | |
Dog gagging and coughingI have a 14 mo choc lab, female. last night before bed she gagged a couple times, was fine during the night and then today has gagged here and there. its as if she has something stuck in her throat, like a hair. she HAS been licking herself a lot lately and i know when i do brush her i get lots of hair so i'm thinking its probably hair. she is eating and drinking fine and seems fine. now i called the emerg vet and they said all they could say was to bring her in. i don't think its necessary. my question is- wouldn't i have some clue she was bleeding internally if that was the problem. she has been perfectly healthy and has not had anything hard recently. we gave her a pig ear on thursday night, thats it. please tell me what you think. | |
Dog having side effects to heartgard heartworm medicationIs it possible that my dog (9yo male neutered Chocolate Labrador retriever) is having a reaction to heartgard plus? I gave him one yesterday morning and by last night he was having obvious gastrointestinal problems. Vomitting, abdominal pain, uncomfortable, lethargic, etc. This happened once before and I took him to the emergency center and they could not find anything wrong. They xrayd, ultrasound, blood work, and the liver numbers were elevated, that is all. IF so, how long will it last to leave his body? He is allergic to penicillan, otomax, and bees. The heartgard box has no medication insert to tell me of possible side effects. | |
Dog throwing up all the timeHello we really need some help with our 6 yr. old toy Manchester terrier (female neutered). Starting Christmas Eve she has been bringing up her food (undigested). She will always will eat and is VERY hungry all of the time. She also has battled colitis in the past but that has been controllable buy low doses of metronidazole when it flares up. We have always had to over feed her too because she has a hard time putting on normal weight. She normaly eats a 13oz can of petagree lamb and rice everyday. We have been to the vet 3 times in the past week.Her temp was good, they did an x-ray (looked normal) and a blood test this Friday. Some Liver functions were high MCV was at 73.7 (high 73), Hct was at 62% (high of 55.0%) and Hb was at 19.0 (high of 18.0) all other tests were in range. The vet called us on Friday and said she may have eaten something poisonous or be coming down with some form of canine hepatitis. He also said "That's all his facility can do for my dog" ( this frustrates us as we are not going to just sit back and watch one of our family members die).She is always eager to eat but since these episodes will not drink at all. Only if I fill a cap up of watered down Gatorade will she take a few sips. We started feeding her baby rice and baby food this weekend (and the vet gave us metoclopramide suspension twice a day) and she had done pretty good keeping it down this weekend until last night. We fed her at 6:30 and she woke up at 12:30 to bring up about a 1/4 of her food (she has thrown up just about every night between 12 and 3 am) This is always just undigested food (no bile of foam).Also she moved her bowls last night and aside from being very soft, color looked normal. I hope you can give us some advice my wife and I are very upset and have no idea what to do at this point.She has lost over a pound in the past week. | |
Dog with knee surgery tibial plateau leveling osteotomy tplohi,my dog cleo (5yo mixed breed neutered female) had a tplo (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) on her knee about 6 months ago she still does not walk on the leg good. I took her back and the vet that did the tplo then said that it was her meniscus on her knee and she needed another operation. My question is should the meniscus have been fixed when the tplo was done in the first place? | |
Dog vomiting and not acting himselfI am taking my dog (6mo male pitt bull terrier) to the vet in the morning but just wanted some advice he is not him self at all today, he has been throwing up clear foamy liquid and he has a yellowish stuff comming out of his penis. they told me to take food and water away until his visit tommorrow. also he usually barks at people when we go for car rides today he just layed on my lap. i am really worried. |

Dog with fleas
Last night my 7yo female neutered maltese was scatching a little & I noticed that the day before she did a little too. I rolled her over to look through her and found a flea...then 2 more a little bit later. I immediately ran to the store and bought Sergeants flea control that you put on their back between the shoulder blades & put that on her immediatedly. I washed all of her bedding & have vaccumed the house at least 3 times since. We have a huge 2 level house and the dog is 99.9% of the time on our main level in our living room & dining room. I found only 2 today...and that was early this morning...I have not seen any since...but am scared to death of how many fleas are in our house that I cannot see. I am afraid they are crawling everywhere & don't know where to start. The dog sometimes goes upstairs in our bedrooms.....I am afraid these pests could be in closets & etc....any advice would be greatly appreciated! - Click
