Dog eating prepared food and cat foodMy puppy (11mo Dachshund - female neutered) has been a very picky eater and very often I prepare food for her, meat and vegetables, first is that healthly enough and she also eats dry food from the cat's dish is that a problem? She appears healthy, her wt. is 8 lbs.
Dog with diarrhea from arthritis drugs and antacidsMy 10yo female neutered Border collie dog developed arthritis this spring and was placed on Etogesic 300 mg. daily for the past 6 weeks. I also recently started her on Glucosamine and Chondoitin. Two days ago, she developed blood tinged diarrhea and I took her off all meds and started her on a diet of boiled chicken/hamburg and rice. Can she take Pepcid or Protonix or other antacid?
Dog bleeding from penisMy shepherd (6mo male German Shepherd dog) is spotting blood, small drops, here and there, from his penis. I have noticed this in the last day. When he shook this morning, I noticed a few drops. When, I came in from an errand, and he was a bit excited ( normal for him to release a few drops of urine at these times) I noticed a few drops of blood. I examined his penis, seems there are no cuts or contusions and when I put a tissue there, I came away with a little blood. My girlfriend complained of a few brown spots on the bed where he sleeps, so I assume this has been happening for a few days. Only today did I notice the spots, however, I was away for the weekend. This morning, aware there was something going on, I watched his urination, totally normal. No pain, grimacing or any kind of symptoms, his same normal wanting to mark every where he can. He eats a raw diets, raw chicken, chop meat, brown rice, apples, broccoli, ever day since he was 2 yrs. He takes very good vitamins daily, nu-pro. He is in excellent shape, get's a fair amount of excercize, but, recently has not gone out as much as normal. Although he can go out and urinate quite often on his own ( can be let out ). His spirits are perfect, he runs and plays with no problem and interracts with myself and our cat normally, running, chasing, playing, reacting as normal. Is this common in Shepherds and is it a urinary infection ? Will it clear up on it's own ? Is there something that I can give him to help him deal with it himself ? (non prescription) It was at first alarming to me, however, I like to check things out before I run to the vet and submit him to medicines etc. He ate normally this afternoon and showed a great appetite, and drinks plenty of water. His snout seems normal, eyes, etc. and his temperature also seems normal. I hope I have given enough info, thanks for your help.
Purchasing puppy with one blue eyeI am looking to purchase a Tibetan Spaniel puppy who is white and sable parti color. His left eye has a sable patch around it. The right side of his face is white. Instead of being black, his right eyelids are pink and he has a blue ring around his pupil. What has caused this? What problems may he encounter due to this? Is it hereditary? AND can it be passed on to his offspring? The breeder says he is not blind. Thank you!
Dog fainting episodesActually I am the breeder of Saint Bernard dogs and have been for about 6 years. My question involves a puppy who I placed at 7 weeks of age; he was the largest of the litter and absolutely had no problems from birth until last month(about 5months of age) when he had a fainting spell. His name is Brutis; he apparently was in the back seat of the car, with his chest and paws hanging over the front seat and he passed out(he had no collar on at the time), once they layed him on the ground he woke back up, no convulsions or anything else noted other than his eyes rolled back. He was brought to the vet, EKG and heart examination was normal, they called it a syncopal episode, but did not go into explanation what caused it. Well last week, at 6 months of age it happened again, at the vets office and it was witnessed. Brutis was extremely excited and stressed, pulling at his collar and did not want to be put on the scale, he then passed out, falling to the floor. His heartrate was taken immediately and they said it was normal and they are taking bloodwork. This episode does not last long, about 10 seconds and no convulsions, or stiffening of muscles. I, as the breeder, am very concerned about this and would like to know several things 1)what could be the actual cause of this if it is not related to his heart 2)are there any other tests/specific bloodwork that you would recommend we have done 3)can over excitement/stress or pulling on the leash cause this problem by itself, and if every other ailment is ruled out and this is a 'vagal response' as they called it at the vet, is this heriditary or a genetic condition? when I asked my vet he said that if all physical problems are ruled out, this may be more an individual problem than a genetic one. Absolutely none of my breeding saints have had heart problems, epilepsy, eye disorders, etc, so I am totally baffled about this situation.
Dog limping after jumping on ownerAbout a week ago when I came home from work I let my dog (2yo female neutered German Shepherd) Sophie out of her kennel and she jumped up on me(as she always does)to greet me and her right foot was caught in my sweater for just a few seconds. Later on in the day I noticed she was favoring that foot or leg. She doesn't whine or yelp like she has pain, but she has been limping for a week now. What could she have done to her leg? A sprain maybe? I touch up and down from shoulder to foot and it doesn't seem to bother her. Please help me. She wants to play with my other German Shepherd and I don't know what to do or what is wrong. Thanks for your time. |

Dog digging carpet
My dog (5yo female neutered Blue Heeler mix) is outside during the day and inside at night. I've only had her for 6 months- I got her from a friend. During the past month, she started scratching at our carpets ruining them. She only scratches them around the walls never in middle of the floor. Why is she doing this and what can I do to get her to stop?
