Benadryl and acepromazine in combination on itching dogMy scottie (3yo female neutered) seems to be suffering from flea allergies. I have treated her with Frontline but she continues to dig & scratch at herself. I would like to give her some benadryl. I have read online the dose is 0.5-2 mg/Lb two times per day. Is this correct? I am getting ready to go on vacation and my brother will be keeping her. She has suffered from separtion anxiety before so I got a prescription of Acepromazine 25 mg refilled for my brother to give her if she needs it. Can the benadryl and the acepromazine be given at the same time?
Dog on heat with hair lossOur dog (1yo Cairn Terrier entire) has just went into heat for the first time 3 days ago. She has also started to lose a lot of fur. In some spots she is actually bald why is this is this normal. Why is she doing this?
Dog with collapsed tracheaMy dog (5yo female neutered Pekingnese) has been diagnosed at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, to have a collapsed trachea. I understand this is common with the brachycephalic breeds. Her trachea collapse is on the end of the trachea closest to her heart and lungs, and exhibits on her exhale. She is otherwise extremely healthy and active and only rarely does this condition seem to slow her down. I have seen other Pekes, Pugs, French bulldogs that are affected much more than she is, who also appear to be active and not too affected by the condition. My question is this: Will her collapsed trachea degenerate further as she gets older, or does the area of the trachea affected by collapse generally remain the same throughout the lifetime of the dog. What signs should I look for to know if her condition is changing? Is there any help for her?
Puppy hair lossOur dear puppy (14weeks old, Beagle/Bassett male) started about 2 weeks ago with slow hair loss on his belly. He is now loosing hair slowing along his sides, his chest and under his chin. He was diagnosed by a vet with Mange. We treated it once with Metiban dip and now are treating it with Neem oil shampoo and a supplement on his food for skin. I have been doing a lot of research online about mange, if he has it, it looks like it would be the Demodex kind. I'm not totally sold yet that it's mange because he has no lesions, or sores. It's just hair loss and itchyness... not other signs. Other than loosing his hair , he looks like a healthy pup. My questions is, could this be something else or did we catch the mange early and he may not get the sores and stuff? Thank you so much.
Puppy with crystals in urineHi, puppy's (4months Black Russian Terrier Male) urine used to be very cloudy - whitish. Had clavamox for 10 days - urinalysis and bloodwork was done and crystals were detected in the urine. What kind of crystals might be in a 4mo puppy's urine? What further tests or treatment is needed? He's very important to me. The vet wants to do an xray of his bladder and kidneys but I thought an ultrasound was better?
Dog drinking a lot of waterMy elderly dog (14yo Male German Short Haired Pointer) is drinking unusually large quantities of water at a time (1/2 large bowl is not uncommon). He acts like he is very thirsty and won't be sidetracked. After he urinates, he immediately wants to replace the fluid and drinks a lot again. While it is difficult to tell, he does not seem to be urinating the same large quantity that he is drinking, but he is not bloated in any way to indicate retention, so this is just an observation. He is eating well - no change in diet. Could this be a UTI or something else. I am concerned. Thank you. |

Cat losing hair with itchy skin
About a month ago my female neutered Siamese mix cat lost all the shine in her coat of long hair, and refuses to come into the house, preferring to remain in the garage. She is shedding her hair and it comes out in big clumps. The skin on her back near her tail is flaking off, like large dandruff, and the hairs have tiny black things on them near the base. This area is very itchy and when it is touched, she goes into an involuntary biting spasm. She also has small scabs on her skin spread all over her body. - Click
