Dog drinking own urineThis is a foster dog (1-2 yo mix breed female neutered) that has just come into my care. She is drinking her urine like it's water. She was released by an elderly woman, don't know if she was severely punished for housetraining or maybe didn't receive water? Have had her medically checked, no infections and giving her vitamins to help if it is associated with poor nutrition. Any ideas on helping her stop this? Anything we could feed her to make her urine taste bad? Thanks for your help.
Dog with urinary incontinence and behavioral changesMy dog, Jenni (8yo Poodle/Lhasa Apso mix female neutered), has been suffering from general weakness/pain in her back legs for about three weeks now. History: 2 years ago, Jenni was put on a hormone for urinary incontinence. We took her off the hormone after about six months because the hormone affected her behavior (she became whiny, clingy and nervous), and the leakage did not return. Several months ago, however, we took Jenni to the vet for a urinary tract infection - she was leaking bloody urine. She was placed on an antibiotic, but the leaking continued, so she was put back on the hormone. After two days on the hormone, her back legs became painful and stiff, and the vet said her reflexes were poor. The vet took Jenni off the hormone, but there was no change in her legs. The vet then did an x-ray to check for spinal/neurological injuries and found none. Lyme disease test came back negative. No sign of bladder stones or cancer. Blood work normal. The vet put Jenni on dexamethasone 0.25 mg, and the leg pain/stiffness has somewhat decreased over the past two weeks, but Jenni is still uncomfortable - she is also behaving oddly, hiding in dark rooms and cowering after she goes to the bathroom outside (someone has to go out and carry her inside). The vet isn't sure what to do next, and we live in a rather rural area with no veterinary specialists nearby. Any ideas?
Dog with extreme itchiness on faceMy dog has been really rubbing his nose hard against the floor to the point where his whiskers are all broken. He also has had EXTREMELY goopy eyes and they will haze over. I thought it might be allergies, but we are now in Winter here(northern Vermont) and it is still bothering him. I make sure to keep his ears clean, etc. So I'm not sure what to do, benadryl helps a little, but not much and I hate to keep him on it if it doesn't clear up. This has never occurred before. Please help.
Dog urinating blood clots after catheter removalMy bichon (4yo female neutered) recently had a catheter procedure done to check to see if she had stones or crystals due to numberous bladder infections. The procedure went well and all looked fine. However, two days later she began bleeding when urinating and having to urinating frequently. I took her to an urgent care facility where they hospitalized her for 3 days--doing ultrasounds, bloodwork etc. The only thing they could find was that everything was fine--except the catheter caused major irritation in the bladder causing the bleeding. They sent her home with amoxicillin and a pain medication since it seems painful for her to urinate. They said it could take up to 10 days for the irritation to settle down and the bleeding to stop. She is also passing quite a few clots which they said was to be expected. My question is--why does it take so long for the irritation to subside and what causes the clotting. I would have figured on antibiotics and iv's that the swelling would have subsided. Also, it bothers me how uncomfortable she seems when urinating. Any info would be helpful.
Adopting puppy with risk of hip dysplasiaHi, I am about to adopt a 9wk old male Vizsla puppy from a farmer in Iowa. I'm not interested in hunting, showing, etc., I just want an energetic dog who can keep up with me during long distance runs. However, I know that this puppy's parents were only just a year old when the litter was born. So, they are too young for OFA certification and I've heard that 1 year old is too young to breed. The parents are registered with the AKC and the breeder says the puppies come with health guarantees, but I'm just concered about hip dysplasis since the parents aren't (can't be, I guess, yet) OFA certified and they were so young when the litter was born. I just want my dog to be healthy so I can enjoy many years of running with him. Do I have anything to be worried about?
Dog with inflammed teatMy sister-in-law has a 3yo female pug that had puppies about two weeks ago and now she says that the mother has a swelling tit. She said it is about the size of a tennis ball and it is obviously very tender. She still lets the puppies eat, just not on that tit. She also said that she feels like she is starting to run a slight fever. I checked out milk fever but that seems too serious for the symptoms she is having...or is it. What could her condition be and is it serious and/or curable without a trip to the vet? |

Dog digging carpet
My dog (5yo female neutered Blue Heeler mix) is outside during the day and inside at night. I've only had her for 6 months- I got her from a friend. During the past month, she started scratching at our carpets ruining them. She only scratches them around the walls never in middle of the floor. Why is she doing this and what can I do to get her to stop?
