Dog with allergiesMy dog (4yo Miniature male neutered Dachshund) has been through much testing and has been diagnosed as having allergies. After spending oodles of money on serum and giving him allergy injections as prescribed, they just arent working. He is contantly itching, and biting at his skin, has scabs (almost like cradle cap) on top of his head. His eyes are puffy and his skin smells. He was given antibiotics, but they just dont seem to work anymore either. I know this is a complicated question, but we are spending so much money on these vet appointments and getting no answers. Can you suggest anything else that could be wrong with him? I was thinking possibly an adrenal function problem, or a liver problem? Any advice would be great.
Dog with lame back legsSadie is a female mixture of Husky, Shepard and what have you. She is 4 ½ years old and weighs about 65 pounds. She is a very well trained dog and heels perfectly when commanded to. She sprained her right rear leg two months ago. She walked three legged so the vet took X-rays and gave her an antibiotic plus Rimadyl. It has healed completely with no after affects other than a slightly enlarged hock. TODAYS PROBLEM: Several days ago she started to run but stopped after only ten yards, pulling up lame on her left rear leg. She immediately took her "heel" position and would not leave my side. Although she had NOT walked three legged she lifts it on occasion to take the weight off. She also acts like she gets a sharp pain for an instant. I am more concerned that she is listless and does not seem herself. She doesn't look out the widow like normal (usually for hours) but instead sleeps on the floor by my feet. When I take her out she just assumes the "heel" position and will not leave my side to sniff, run, or play. Today she seemed a little constipated although not impacted. She defecated a little walked a bit, defecated again, and did the same a third time. Each time part of the movement appeared very dry. Her appetite is normal. Do you have any suggestions?
Puppy with diarrheaMy 5month old male Rottweiler puppy has had diarrhea for 2 days, but he is eating and still very playful, is it okay if I gave him some pepto bismal for the diarrhea?
Dog losing control of bladderMy pet dog is 15 yrs old (female neutered Spitz cross) and just had a geriatric blood work profile done.(for dental). Just about a week or so ago she started to urinate in her kennel while I was at work (never before). She also cannot hold it in the house at night time. She leaks a little when asleep, but also wake up to go outside. She has been taking medicine for a possible urinary tract infection, but it is not helping. The results on the urine sample showed a little blood, but not much infection. What can be the problem?
Putting a dog with Cushings disease to sleepI just want to put my mind at ease. My dog (17yo male neutered ShihTzu) was just put to sleep. he had Cushings disease for 3 years and it got to a point where he could not lie down or go to the bathroom. Apparently the vet said he was full of stool according to the xray and the liver was half the size of the body. He also said taking out the stool under anasthesia might kill the dog at his age (17 years). He gave us some medicines but they did not work. Is it true such ailments might be terrible uncomfortable for small breeds.
Dog allergic reaction post vaccinationToday the dog (11wks old Boston terrier) received his first DLP (distemer/lepto/parvo) short. This was about 3:30. Now his eyes are swollen - the skin around is all puffed up - he also has what looks like bumps - a swelling on his head and is scratching. Is this an alergic reaction and can I give him benadryl? |
