Dog allergic reaction post vaccinationToday the dog (11wks old Boston terrier) received his first DLP (distemer/lepto/parvo) short. This was about 3:30. Now his eyes are swollen - the skin around is all puffed up - he also has what looks like bumps - a swelling on his head and is scratching. Is this an alergic reaction and can I give him benadryl?
Dog snoringMy dog (3-4yo female neutered Spaniel mix) has been snoring a lot lately. That is no so much my concern as sometimes her whole body shakes including her head..eyes..mouth.. and while she shakes..she pants sometimes. When I call her name, thinking she is dreaming, she looks at me then lays back down and does it again within seconds. She sleeps a lot more now than ever..Do you think there is something to be concerned about?
Dog on Vasotop and VivitoninMy 16 year old Beagle bitch has been on Vasotop 1.25 since April, when she had a spleenectomy due to a 2 lb tumor. Her symptoms were mild (occasional cough) but it was felt wise to give her heart some support, so she is prescribed Vasotop 1.25 tab per day. Recently during an unusually hot, humid evening here in the U.K. she had what the vet believes was a mild 'stroke.' She was her normal self 12 hours later (barking for food.) However, the vet prescribed Vivitonin 50 and reassured us that most old dogs do well on Vasotop and Vivitonin 50 mg x 2 per day. Now however, the vet who I asked for a repeat prescription expressed concern that the Vivitonin could aggravate her heart condition. There seems to be little research done in the UK on the combination of these 2 drugs on dogs and little experience of its use amongst our vets. I would be very grateful if you could offer me more advice about old dogs taking a combination of Vivitonin and Vasotop.

Dog with hip dysplasia with diarrheaas my dog ages (he's a 12yo Labrador mix neutered male) he tends to have breathing problems that his vet says are normal for him at this age, last night however he was barking (single barks not continuous) and then he had diarrhea with bloood in it and it was mucous-ish. what does this mean? or could it mean? today he was acting normally again, even went on 2 walks, I'm so not sure what I should do, and I'm so worried? He's on medication for hip dysplasia could that be causing it?
Dog with Cushings DiseaseMy boy (14yo male neutered Springer Spaniel) is showing many of the signs of Cushing's disease. His eyesight is failing badly. (But he also has digenerative retinals). He eats everything, drinks a ton of water, urinates often as a result, has exhibited skin problems in the last few months, seems to be getting "weaker" in muscle structure than he really should be. Pants most of the time. I know he's old, so a lot of this could be age related. The blood tests have come back as "non-conclusive" his cortisol levels are 19.8 which I am told is a grey area...Do you have any suggestions as to how to proceed. The vet is wishy washy on doing more tests because he says they are also likely to be inconclusive. The medical treatments I've read about for it sound as bad as the problem. I'm not keen on giving heim something that "kills" a portion of his organs to reduce the production of hormones. I've heard a lot of things in the last few months regarding cortisol-thru a company add for cortislim. Basically saying it controls/reduces the production of the hormone, and provides a calming effect (anti stress). Since he is mostly blind--I would assume he is somewhat stressed a lot of the time (I would be). Could this be helpful? What would you suggest we do next? I don't mind the tests if we will learn something, but if it just stresses him more for nothing I'm not sure what is best. |

Dog digging carpet
My dog (5yo female neutered Blue Heeler mix) is outside during the day and inside at night. I've only had her for 6 months- I got her from a friend. During the past month, she started scratching at our carpets ruining them. She only scratches them around the walls never in middle of the floor. Why is she doing this and what can I do to get her to stop?
