Dog eating dead mouse

My dog (6mo male neutered Mini Pinscher) ate a dead mouse outside. Should I take him to the vet or is this an okay thing for him to do. He has been acting the same since he ate the dead mouse. Do I need to take him in to see a vet tonight?

Dog with tremors in back legs

My 11yo Labrador/Shepherd cross has started to have tremors in the back legs - initially it was only after running and exercise but now it seems to be happening most of the time. He's fine otherwise, eating, drinking, playing.

Dog with heart failure

2 weeks ago, I noticed Molli (9yo female neutered Cocker Spaniel) coughing a little. I made an appointment at the vet & after an x-ray & an ultrasound, heart failure was diagnosed. she was prescribed enalapril & lasix. She has been taking the meds for 2 weeks now & just a couple of days ago, I began adding omega 3 & Co Q-10. Last evening, she began to "hack", much worse than when she started. I stopped giving her the omega 3 & Co Q-10 in her last meal. Could the natural meds be doing this, or is it likely the enalapril or lasix is the culprit? She is scheduled to have another blood test in about 2 weeks. I also purchased L-carnitine & taurine supplements for her. Will anything I've mentioned interact. What do you suggest I do?

Dog sudden death

I have a very sad story about my Lhasa Apso that I would like ask a few questions about his recent and sudden death.  Friday we brought both of our dogs to the groomer to get bath and shaven.  It is done all in the open and the groomer is very loving and affectionate towards the animals and never at all abusive or rough with the animals.    On a Saturday afternoon, we noticed the dog was a bit lethargic (though not a hyper dog to begin with) and was not eating, but was still drinking water.  Sunday he vomited a couple of times.  It was not pretty to look at, but nothing out of the ordinary.  He still was not eating and our vet was out of the office, so we went to his substitute vet in another town on Monday afternoon. The appointment was at 4:30 PM.  The dog was still lethargic and not eating, but did not really seem to be in pain.  He did not cry or wince when touched, he just looked sad.  The vet gave him a shot.  One the vet claims it was Tylan.  The dog came home and the dog walked in by himself without any problems, then at 7:15 he could hardly move his entire body it was a struggle to lift his head a bit.  He had violent black diarrhea several times before we rushed him back to the vet.  The smell was so vial, I thought I was going to get sick myself.  The vet then said he had rectal bleeding and needed to stay overnight because he was dehydrated.  They then took blood work  (did not do it initially).  The next day we went back as scheduled at 1:30 PM, not even18 hours later he was blind, was diagnosed as a diabetic had an extremely high sugar count, his kidneys were failing, but with no ketones in the urine dip stick and was in a coma.  Tylan (the shot they claim to have given him) does not do that from all of the research I tried to find on the web.   And the night before when we returned after the shot, the vet kept on saying that she didn't do anything wrong, trying to blame us for taking the dog home and not leaving him at the vet, but he wasn't like that at 5:00 PM she thought that he may a bit dehydrated because of the vomiting and said if we wanted to leave him overnight for saline solution.  But they are not there all night and I did not want to leave him there alone in a cage if he was still drinking his water at home.  I agreed to bring him back the next day if he was not better after the Tylan shot.  He may not of been eating, but he was drinking water.   As we were crying, we were telling the vet, no one said she did anything wrong, (and it never popped in my head until she said it) just to take care of the dog.  Later that day at 4:30 in the afternoon I had to sign the paperwork to put him down since the head vet and several others in the group believed there was so mush swelling to his brain, that it was a lost cause to keep alive.   All the vets in the group could not come up with a conclusion of why his body failed so suddenly.  Something does not add up.  He was only three years old and very healthy until this point with no problems what so ever.  He was not over weight or underweight.  This dog always went to the vet, got his shots, never had any problems with Diabetes.    He did not eat strange things or get into things he was supposed to and was not exposed to things like antifreeze (none any where in the house, garage or basement) and the other dog and two cats are fine.  The only thing he would occasionally munch on the dry cat food, but the other dog eats a lot more when I am not looking.  He did eat people food.  But things like Chicken, rice and noodles as his regular diet (I know not the best according to the vet, but they were spoiled).  They did not get sweets like chocolate, maybe an occasional piece of a piece of bread.  In my heart of hearts I believe they killed that dog by accident.  I am not looking to sue or go after this woman I just want some closure to this (though I don't ever think I will be going back to that vet ever again regardless).  Thank you for your assistance.

Dog with torn cruciate ligament

In 1999,  Riley(10yo male neutered Pembroke Corgi) tore his right ant. cruciate ligament.  He healed nicely from it and we tried to be careful so that it wouldn't happen again....but it did this year.  We had it repaired and he did quite well on it but this vet wanted to xray both legs and was concerned about the amount of arthritis there was in right let.  His concern was that that leg would be taking most of the stress since the left had been operated on.  So he wanted to xray that leg a couple of weeks after the surgery to see how it was doing.  He noted it wasn't any worse.  They had given him a shot so that they could xray it and another to wake him up.  The problem is,  it has been 3 weeks now and he continues to have severe problems with the right hind leg.  It is difficult for him to go up the two steps to come inside.  When he lands after going down a step he frequently falls to the side.  The vet does not seem concerned by this saying he thinks it looks better when I bring him in but he DOESN'T look any better.  You can hear that foot make a slapping sound when he walks because he is unable to clear it from the floor. He frequently bunny hops. He did give him cortisone injections a few times but I saw no change.  Have you ever heard of nerve damage caused by an injection and if so,  does it ever get back to normal?  This has affected Riley's standard of life significantly.   No way can he run up 16 steps to get to his favorite sleeping room or run around the back yard chasing squirrels.  This has gotten us quite upset so I hope you will be able to give me some insight

Dog afraid of animal bones

My 4yo Bichon Frise neutered female dog is afraid of animal bones. I only have to show her one and she runs away from me extremely upset. If I try to get close to her she sometimes wets herself. If you leave the bone for her or wait until she sneaks up to you she will grab the bone from you take the bone and eat it away from you. After she sits around the corner from you looking very timid. Last night i was sitting at the table eating lamb and just showed her the bone and she ran out the house. I don't understand my Bichon is a extremely outgoing dog and not scared about anything. She happily catches planes with me and trotts through the airport terminal. She loves all types of food and is just waiting to grab the food of your plate. We have not found any food she won't eat. She has no problems with chew bones. She also gets very timid when we turn the barbeque on outside as she knows the bones come from the bbq. She came from a loving breeder she was not mistreated so what is the phobia about meat bones. They only have to be a tiny bone and she will run from me. Petrified?

Vet question of the day

Add to Purchasing puppy with one blue eye
I am looking to purchase a Tibetan Spaniel puppy who is white and sable parti color. His left eye has a sable patch around it. The right side of his face is white. Instead of being black, his right eyelids are pink and he has a blue ring around his pupil. What has caused this? What problems may he encounter due to this? Is it hereditary? AND can it be passed on to his offspring? The breeder says he is not blind. Thank you! - Click here to read the answer
