Dog with pain when opening jawsMy 8yo male neutered bulldog started showing pain opening his jaws, and started to get fatigued 2 days ago. This morning his right eye swelled slightly ,and turned to the left(like a lazy eye)and turned bloodshot, and the right side of his face was swollen, and he was very listless. He is normally very healthy,we feed him baked chicken thigh meat, and alpo or pedigree premium turkey or chicken(we were told he was allergic to beef a few years ago).We took him to the vet and the vet checked his lymph glands, looked inside his mouth for a bad tooth, took his temperature and it was 102,and he was dehydrated and she gave him an IV,and an antibiotic shot, and a prescription for 750mg of cephlaxen, and an antibiotic cream for his eye.The vet was not sure what was wrong with him,she thought maybe he was bit by something, but could not pinpoint the problem. We also have two cats but they all pretty much get along and the vet checked his eye for any scratches, with a dye solution and found no scratches. He has a hard time opening his mouth,I did hand feed him some chicken breast meattoday and he ate it gingerly. His bowel movements and urination seem regular. This tenderness opening his jaws started a few weeks ago but it was very minor,I attributed it too his oversize rawhide bone which he played with all the time. The only health problem he has had was roughly 2 years ago,he suddenly could not walk, and we took him to the vet,and he diagnosed it as arthritis and gave him a cortisone shot and he has been fine ever since.I massage his back ,shoulders and hips every night, and he has been as healthy and playful as a puppy up until the last few days. The vet said to wait a few days and if he is not better to bring him back in.We have the ceplaxen and were told to give him 750mg (1-500mg capsule and 1-250mg capsule). It breaks my heart to see him like this,he is like my son,and a true gift from god.I was wondering if there is anything breed specific,or anything you might think of from the symptoms I described. He is an inside dog,and is walked 3 to 4 times a day on a leash.Any help would be very much appreciated.
Dog losing hair from stressI have a 1 year old male neutered great dane. he has recently started to lose his fur ( the loss of hair is patchy and the skin seems to be a bit pink in these areas) he suffers greatly from seperation anxiety. we have recently started to lock him in the basement ( away from our other dog) because he destroys the house when we leave. could this stress be causing it, or is it just because the change in season.
Dog with lethargy after a coldI have a three year old Black Lab Sheppard mix. Earlier last week she was showing signs of a cold (Sneezing, runny nose) This seemed to have cleared up by the end of the week. Friday, and Saturday she was back to herself. Saturday evening I started seeing signs of exhaustion. She seemed to have very little energy. As of this morning she doesn’t have the energy to even climb the stairs or jump on the bed. She is very slow, almost creeping, when walking up the stairs. I have felt around her body, pressing down on spots around her backside, legs, and stomach. There doesn’t seem to be any pain or discomfort, it is a lack of energy. I went outside with her to watch her go to the bathroom. She does not seem to have any problem with urinating, or bowel movement. She just isn’t acting like a 3 year old dog, more like a 12 year old dog. My question to you is, could this be part of “the cold” from last week. Or does it sound like something else. I just don’t know if I should be looking for a Vet that is on call today (Sunday)? Or, if it something that can wait until Monday? This is all new to me. Besides her winter time skin allergies, she has always been a healthy dog. Please Advise.
Hypoallergenic ie low allergy dogsFor 15 years we had a cross border collie/cocker spaniel who though I loved was allergic to. Her fur seemed to set me off with typical allergy symptoms. She died last year and my children 8 & 10 and us all miss her but would love another dog. Since we now have a small yard we are thinking of a smaller breed. I am looking at some puppies this weekend that are Shih Tzu x Silkies and will meet their mum and dad too. Do you think that this mixed breed could be better suited to me and what should I look out for?
Dog with inflammed third eyelidsHi, My 3yo female neutered Boston Terrier dog has swollen glands in both her eyes. The glands are red and she has a discharge from her eyes. My vet told me that they were called "third eyelids" and they were inflamed. He prescribed her allergy tabs & some ointment. If this treatment doesn't work he wants to preform a laser surgery on her eyes to remove the third eyelids. She has been on the meds since Monday of this week and her eyes are still swollen. What is your opinion to how I should treat my dog? And what causes this condition?
Fainting dogMy 5yo neutered female pembroke welsh corgi has had some episodes of fainting. She knows they are coming because she will seek either my husband or myself out. She will start to shake in her back legs and just topple over, she is not really out as her eyes are open and then she just gets up like nothing happened. I have been keeping a record of these episodes. It started about 2 years ago after she had a litter of puppies by C-section and after they were weaned, I had her spayed. About 5 months after she had a few of these episodes and then they quit and now they have started again just recently. She has had two within a week of each other. What could cause this? |

Female cat with bloody discharge from vagina
Our (1yo female DSH) neutered cat (neutered prior to our ownership) has had intermittent small volume bloody discharge from her vagina for the last 3 months. On exam her vulva had an ulcerated area and our veternarian is planning an exam under anesthesia later this week. She has no weight loss, a healthy appetite, and has had no change in activity. She is the only animal in our home. What do you believe this could be?
