Dog with smelly ears and ear dischargeI noticed a odor coming from my dog's (3 yo male neutered chocolate labrador's) ear. I noticed the right ear has alot of wax or dark substance in it. i tried to clean alot out, it seems to cause him discomfort. Also on the outter part of the ear, the lappy part, its looks to be scabbed on the ear and hurts him for me to remove it. not sure what it is or what i can get to help him
Dog with penile irritation and straining to urinateWinky (2yo male neutered Yorkshire terrier) was treated with amoxicillin for 2 wks following a sudden onset of what seemed to be penile irritation. The sx started the evening after a day we took a long walk in the woods. That night he would go to play and would suddenly sit down and lick, It got to the point where he wouldn't walk w/out sitting and licking and generally appearing distressed. The following morning he wouldn't urinate so I took him to the vet. His urine was neg for infection but she felt he may have irritated it during the walk and so put him on the antibiotics. Symptoms were relieved in 2-3 days. Last pill was fri but fri night i noticed he took a very long time to pee and so I started watching him. He seems to be straining and only urinates small puddles. He is eating drinking playing and otherwise seems fine....no licking this time. My original question was do I take him to the emergency vet today or wait to see my own tomorrow but since he is peeing (if only small amts) and seems fine otherwise I decided to wait. do you have any thoughts on what this could be? I have 3 yorkies and he is my stoic one so I'm very concerned . I love my dogs like kids and have to fight a tendency to over-react but there is definitely something going on. Thanks so much for the follow up on the problem I was having...it occurred after filling out the whole form and question.... when I would click the submit button, a new screen would come up saying unauth. domain. I don't know what that means.
Dog with runny nose - crusty dischargeWe live in Romania and our dog (6yo German Shepherd neutered female) has developed a nose problem. It has crusty mucus coming out of the nostrils on both sides. She also has trouble breathing, and seems to have trouble eating (opening her mouth). We took her to a vet here in Romania and they gave her two courses of something that was supposed to boost her immune system. It did little good. Then we gave her a 10 day course of penicillin, which seemed to help, but now her nose is right back in the same condition a week later. Do you have any idea what could be the problem? We have also been giving her garlic 3 times a day for several months. I can send you a digital picture if you will send me an email address. Thanks.
Dog pregnancy - how to tell if she is pregnantMaggie (1.5yo female dachshund) went into heat on September 22, 03 She bleed for 1 week that we noticed. My mothers mini-dachshund came over from October 2 - October 5 and they were in a tie several times throughout the weekend. We checked Maggie for any signs of bleeding but she had none. We know that she was in heat as she was swollen down there and bleeding and she let Travis tie with her. We are wondering if with no signs of blood, and being in a tie can she be pregnant. She is sleepy a lot and she wants to be held and loved a lot too. Both of those things are new to her. She had puppies when she was 8 months old and after nursing her nipples got smaller but were still bigger then normal so we can not tell if they are getting bigger or not. She went to the vet on October 20 but she could not feel any puppies. She said it may just be to early tho. So I guess what I am asking is this: If Maggie was not bleeing (that we could see NO red blood this week) Could have Travis gotten her pregnant? If the vet didn't feel anything at 18 days a long, could there still be puppies and just not big enough to be felt?
Dog with itchy skin problemsMurphy (our 1yo Scottish terrier) has terrible skin problems. No fleas as he is on sentinal and gets groomed and flea-treated every month. He scratches constantly to the point of losing his hair and sometime bleeding raw. We give him oatmeal baths every week which helps some. We are reluctant to have a vet treat him because we fear he will just be put on steriods. What could be causing this? What else can we do to help? Are there any other options other than steriods/cortizone? Do the advantages of taking the steriods outweigh the pit falls? (We raised Skye Terriers with this same problem and they were on steriods for years with little help but many side effects.)
Dog trembling when breathing inMy dog (a 11yo male husky mix) is quivering and having tremors when he breaths in. It only happens when he is laying down. He seems to sleep fine, but he has started shaking when he inhales. His entire body is affected and the spasms even affect his legs. They are just like little tremors or shakes all over. His behavior has been strange lately. He is much more vocal and seems to be more sensitive and even a bit depressed. It does not seem like anything is hurting him. He does not show that he is in any pain. I am not sure if his behavior is related to his breathing. I am more concerned about the quivering than his new mood. What could be causing this? |

Female cat with bloody discharge from vagina
Our (1yo female DSH) neutered cat (neutered prior to our ownership) has had intermittent small volume bloody discharge from her vagina for the last 3 months. On exam her vulva had an ulcerated area and our veternarian is planning an exam under anesthesia later this week. She has no weight loss, a healthy appetite, and has had no change in activity. She is the only animal in our home. What do you believe this could be?
