Car sick dogMy 1yo Labrador hates car-rides. He would make a huge fuss when we try to get him into the car so we've only tried to get him into the car whenever necessary like on vet visits. He would pant a lot, run away and hide, and when we get him into the car (eventually) he would salivate, pace about and at times end up vomiting. We tried to give him treats during our journey, withholding food before the journey. Every time we need to go some where we need to get a tranquilizer into him just to get him settled enough to get into the car! Is there some way of getting him to accept that car rides are fun?
Dog pacing around at nightMy 9yo female Border Collie mix hides under whatever, jumps up on bed in the middle of night and just stands there. She will pace around furniture and just stand. Jumps up on my husband in the recliner. She has done the middle of night thing twice and the last 2 evenings has done it around 6:30 and does it for nearly 3 hours. No evidence of pain. Her skin seems hot but she is hot a lot of the time. She loves it outside. We live on a nonwork farm and she gets plenty of exercise. Afterwards seems to be back to normal.
Giving dog benadrylMy dog is licking and biting at her feet. I would like to give her some Benadryl to help with the itching before we can get to the vet tomorrow. She is around 12 lbs. Can I give her Benadryl?
Dog with hindlimb collapsingCrow is a 8yo Belgian Shepherd and his rear legs have suddenly started to collapse out from under him. He'll be walking along in the house and bam, the back legs give out and he flops down and stays where he lands. Sometimes he manages to get himself back up, but mostly he needs someone to actually lift up his back end off the floor which allows his rear paws to once again come in contact with the floor. We've placed a carpeted ramp at the back door into the garage to help him get in and out of the house but, even that can give him problems. He also paces through the house most of the night and you can hear him collapse and get up and pace until his back end collapses again. We own a van and a pick-up which he can no longer get into and we can't carry him. It's also been suggested by his groomer that he may have a thyroid problem since he's about thirty pounds overweight but only gets two cups of 'Come and Get It' dry food per day. What do you think his problem could be?
Dog drinking own urineThis is a foster that has just come into my care. She is drinking her urine like it's water. She was released by an elderly woman, don't know if she was severely punished for housetraining or maybe didn't receive water? Have had her medically checked, no infections and giving her vitamins to help if it is associated with poor nutrition. Any ideas on helping her stop this? Anything we could feed her to make her urine taste bad? Thanks for your help.
Dog eating ice cubesOur dog loves to chew and eat ice cubes and has been doing so for years. Is there any problem giving ice cubes to our dog? |

Dog with fleas
Last night my 7yo female neutered maltese was scatching a little & I noticed that the day before she did a little too. I rolled her over to look through her and found a flea...then 2 more a little bit later. I immediately ran to the store and bought Sergeants flea control that you put on their back between the shoulder blades & put that on her immediatedly. I washed all of her bedding & have vaccumed the house at least 3 times since. We have a huge 2 level house and the dog is 99.9% of the time on our main level in our living room & dining room. I found only 2 today...and that was early this morning...I have not seen any since...but am scared to death of how many fleas are in our house that I cannot see. I am afraid they are crawling everywhere & don't know where to start. The dog sometimes goes upstairs in our bedrooms.....I am afraid these pests could be in closets & etc....any advice would be greatly appreciated! - Click
