Dog with osteoarthritisI have a question pertaining to our 7 y.o. Male Springer. Over the last two weeks Buster D has been crying in pain related to movement. Up until now he has had no illness/injury and in fine condition. The pain is most noticeable upon attempting to get up from sleep or after resting. The pain seems to be located at the scapular and hip joints causing decreased ROM and sedentary behavior. I'm suspecting Osteoarthritis as the onset came with sudden change in weather. Here in Central California the fall season never truly came about. One day it's 95 degrees and now 50 degrees. The dampness and rain has also hit the area. Buster was taken to a local Emergency Vet on Sunday with condition worsening. As with children, once in the office signs and symptoms resolved. Physical exam showed neg findings however Rx Rimadyl with follow up asap to primary Vet. I'm told that radiographic studies would confirm the existence of bone spurs within the joints. Do you think this is the problem or could there be a virus, bacteria, or parasitic infestation that attacks the joints? Buster loves to ingest cat feces whenever possible and he may have possibly picked up something through that. If it is indeed Osteoarthritis, is prednisone along with OTC ANSAIDS a good treatment plan?
Chihuahua dog with diarrheaMy dog's poop is green and she is having loose stools. I am feeding her Beneful - chicken and she has eaten this before. Recently she spent a few days in a kennel. I hoped that the problem would disappear in a few days but it has not. What could be causing this? Should she go to the vet?
Dog with lump on spleenA week ago I rescued a spray poodle, that was quite debilitated. She had no tags on her and there were no reports of anyone missing a dog from the police. It turned out that the dog needed an operation after my vet noted on an ultrasound a mass. The mass was in the spleen and the spleen was removed. The mass was encapsulated. I am hoping so very much it isn't cancer. My vet won't say anything - one way or another. It was ruptured, as I believe splenic tumors can be. She said it did not look as bad as other tumors of the spleen that she had seen, and she said that it wasn't "that" big. Of course, we are waiting for the pathology report. However, I'm going crazy hoping it is benign. Would you know the percentage of survival or what chance (percentage wise) we hve for it being benign? The dog is about 11 years old. She was very thin when we found her, but has a wonderful appetite. She sleeps a great deal, but we are hoping that that is because of the surgery and the hard life she has had to endure on the streets.
Female dog with urinary incontinenceSavannah has recently( over the last month) started urinating unknowingly. Usually in her sleep. She will wake up laying in urine and she doesn't even know she did it. She has for a long time been eating from our Yellow labs bowl her Prescription ID food. However, has her own food Eukanuba. They like to share. However, this does not seem like a UTI type of thing. What could it be and is it treatable? Thank you. She's a black female Lab who has been neutered and is only 1.5yo
Dog with problems after spay - complicationsTori was never bred, and spayed two weeks ago at 5 years old. Was in false pregnancy. She had a dental as well and has had a 10 day course of antirobe following spay. She has been urinating more often and I have noticed her licking her vulva occaisionally since her spay, and last night there was some bloody vaginal discharge. She has no blood in her urine. MY QUESTION -- Other than vaginitis, can you tell me what other possible conditions this may be (especially any possible post-surgical complications). I cannot get her to the vet until Saturday, and I am treating it as vaginitis with neosporin ointment until then.
Dog with itchy skinI have a ten year old Husky mix named Nanook. For several years now she has had a problem with spots on her back. They are almost like what they call "Hot Spots" but the Vet says no. She gets them year around and they itch very bad for her. The vets up here have yet to tell me what they think it is, my guess is they don't know. They are along the top of her back from neck to tail and no place else. They get red and they end up with a discharge of some kind. She has had all kinds of tests and every thing seems to be normal. She is healthy. The food the vet told us to use is what they sell and we buy it there. It's Purina Veterinary Diet/ Overweight management. Same with her treats, they are same brand cookie bones or dog bones. She gets four cups a day at one setting. She is about 102 lbs and now about right for her size. She also takes Synivi G3 Grandilies per the vet. One dose a day in her food. All the times I have taken her in the treatment has been the same.....Cephalexin 500mg two caps three times a day along with Sebolux or Pyoben Dermatology Medicated Antimicrobial Keratolytic shampoo. She is given two baths a week when being treated. It's the same old thing time after time. She takes the medication and it does seem to help some at first but as soon as she is off it starts right back in again. This has been going on now for three years. My question is what could this problem be and what can I do about it? I was told once that it may be caused by wheat in her food by this same vet. However, the food he sells me has just that, wheat? One more thing.. Whatever it is, it is very itchy for her. One touch anywhere on her back and she quivers. Don't hurt any but it's driving her crazy. |

Dog digging carpet
My dog (5yo female neutered Blue Heeler mix) is outside during the day and inside at night. I've only had her for 6 months- I got her from a friend. During the past month, she started scratching at our carpets ruining them. She only scratches them around the walls never in middle of the floor. Why is she doing this and what can I do to get her to stop?
