Pet Health Insurance

Have you bought pet health insurance for your favorite dog or cat?  Dogs and cats are our mates in life and will require veterinary care throughout their lifetime.  Sure you may think that your dog or cat won't come to anything untoward whilst in your care but accidents can and will happen.  Veterinary bills are costly expenses and to have pet insurance is that added peace of mind knowing that you do have the funds at hand if you require them.  You wouldn't skimp on your own health insurance, why would you for your furry friend?  Should that veterinary emergency arrive, you'd be assured to know that your pet will be getting the best care thanks to their pet health insurance cover.  A lot of people actually tell me that they've thought about getting pet insurance but never got around to signing up until it's too late ie their dog's been diagnosed with cancer and they are left with hefty veterinary bills to pay.

As with most insurance policies, you need to read the documentation carefully to see if it suits your pet.

Things to consider when picking a pet health insurance for your pet :

If your pet already has a pre-existing condition this may not be covered by the pet health insurance policy, check the pet insurance rules about this.  Some pet health insurances will not cover congenital defects.

Check to see if the insurance policy covers routine things like neutering, teeth cleaning, vaccinations and if they don't then is it possible for you to get added cover for that.

Can you pick the veterinarian?  Some pet insurance policies will only allow you to choose from a list of veterinarians that they have on their database.

Find out if there's a flat deductible fee that's paid or if it's a percentage scaled rate where you have to foot out a percentage of the costs.

Check that the pet insurance policy you buy is valid in your state - or if you are planning to move in the near future, make sure this is on your list of 'to dos' to chase up on after you've settled in.

Petco currently have a promotion going for dog and cat pet health insurance that is definitely worth a look :
