Vet question of the day

Add to Dog dying from volvulus
My dog (8yo Pembroke Corgi female neutered) died suddenly last week. I thought she had the flu and was watching her to see if I would need to take her to the vet the next day. When I woke up the next morning she was unresponsive and she died at the emergency vet's. My vet did an autopsy and said her intestine had twisted (volvulus? I think) and that her cecum had ruptured. He said it came on quickly and she was in septic shock by the time I got her to the vet. I want to know what could have possibly caused this to happen. It was not stomach bloat, but was in the intestine. She was a completely healthy active dog who had just passed a complete physical with blood work. I am sick with guilt over what I should and could have done. She had just vomited once and was lethargic; was not whimpering and did not appear to be in any pain, just under the weather. Can you help me understand why this could have happened? I am so devastated Thank you. - Click here to read the answer
